At some point in life, you’ve probably heard that setting goals is important. Whether it be in a school setting, something you saw on TV, or by listening to a motivational speaker talk about how he/she has made many accomplishments by setting goals. Many times, when we hear these things we either think to ourselves that “Oh that sounds like a good idea” but don’t follow through with actually setting them, or we blow it off completely. In the past month, I decided I’d actually follow through with it and give it a shot. I mean whats the worst that could happen?
I decided a good time to start this would be when I return from my vacation trip to Alabama. I’ve been working hard for the past few months and finally got a break but what I realized on my vacation is that I wasn’t enjoying life to its full potential. I admire road trips for the fact they give me the opportunity to sit and think about life and things I want to get done or work on but I came to the realization that I never actually put into action all these thoughts and ideas that pop into my mind. One of the nights in Alabama when I was thinking about these things, I came across the thought that even though I’m on “vacation” and should be enjoying myself I should also being doing something productive with my time that I enjoy. Instead, I was sitting on Facebook reading picture comments under a random news article wasting time as opposed to investing it. I wrote down a list of all the things I could be doing instead that would not only continue to be doing something I want to do, but also that could better myself or others in some sort of way. The list consisted of the following:
- Motivating Others
- Setting Goals for Myself
- Work Harder
- Helping Others Reach Their Own Goals
- Use Time More Productively
Upon my return I decided to target these things one by one. I began by reading and writing more but couldn’t find much time to do it. This lead me to begin waking up at 5am everyday which falls into “Using time more productively”. The next week I got a new gym membership and started going to the gym every single day during the week before work. This “snowball-effect” made it a lot easier to get all these things done than I initially thought. It might seem difficult or possibly even near impossible to some to accomplish all the things they want to do, but once you can overcome the initial hardship of beginning your list and targeting the various way you can better yourself, it begins to become much easier.
I wake up everyday embracing the day I have ahead of me. I look forward to waking up and being out of bed by 5am because my life has finally become better than my dreams ever could imagine. One of my goals is spreading this motivation and advice to others to help them achieve the same. Its not easy to do, if it was everyone would be doing it. You yourself need to start making the first steps in coming up with your own list of priorities and goals that you want out of life and targeting them. Once you realize what you want to achieve and get out of life and you work hard towards reaching it, the rest will be straightforward on what you need to do from there to reach those goals. If you need a partner, so be it. Not everyone can accomplish all their dreams solely on their own but theres no excuse why you can’t shoot high and live the life you want and deserve.
“Work hard in silence, Let success be your noise.”
